The blade is composed of individual segments that are joined together and heated to extreme temperatures in order to bond the segments together.

The segments are then ground and sharpened to create a cutting edge that is capable of making precise cuts.

The segments also prevent the blade from becoming too hot while in use and reduce the amount of material that is wasted during the cutting process. Hot-pressed segmented blades are most commonly used in commercial woodworking and metalworking applications.
